RCOTSS-Housing
The theme is about keeping everything we do person centred. We are delighted to have an exciting programme focussing on technology and collaborative working to achieve the outcomes that matter to the person.
The conference is for everyone who works in housing, who wants to keep up to date with new developments, and deliver great outcomes for the people that we serve.

£230This year the conference will be held at The County Hotel at Newcastle upon Tyne. The theme is about keeping everything we do person centred. This reflects the personalisation of the NHS Long Term plan, is a key component of social care legislation across the four countries but it is also something that occupational therapists have been doing for years, any recommendations must be tailored to the person’s needs and by working together with the person to achieve the right outcomes for that individual.
A house is more than bricks and mortar and dimensions. Home for most of us is our sanctuary. It’s where we live, relax and feel safe and somewhere most of us stamp our own individuality by way of décor and furnishings.
This year we have a focus on technology. It was clear from our 2018 conference that interest in this area is enormous. In public services we can often be a little tardy adapting to new innovations, so we are aiming to widen our perspective to see what is possible, what is already available, and what has been evaluated.
There is research about what people seek when buying a home. An update on the Future Homes Newcastle project and also the next chapter relating to the “ bath out” research.
There are a variety of seminars covering a range of solutions to meet people’s personalised needs and enabling them to stay in their own homes longer. This includes managing the risk for those with cognitive impairment and the use of stairlifts. We also have seminars on the introduction of the RCOT publication, Adaptations Without Delay and application going forward and very importantly a seminar on Outcomes, a vital part of the occupational therapy process which gives us evidence for our contribution to the national health, housing and social care agenda.
This year we are excited to be able to access the Durham Lumiere event. The conference venue is directly opposite the train station and we are but a short train ride away from Durham. There is the opportunity to take advantage of this and visit the wonderful light event, either as a group or solo, which ever you prefer.
