Churchill School is a special school for pupils aged 8-18 with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and/or Speech and Language needs. We currently have 63 pupils on roll. Based on the site of Samuel Ward Academy, the school has a strong commitment to inclusion and the provision of functional occupational therapy.
The role would involve:
- Assessing pupils’ fine motor, gross motor and visual perceptual, independence and sensory processing needs using standardised and non-standardised assessments.
- Developing individual graded programs.
- Working directly with individuals and with small groups of pupils
- Working collaboratively within the classroom.
- Monitoring and reviewing pupils’ progress in independence needs, sensory processing needs, fine and gross motor skills and visual perception.
- Attending and contributing to annual review meetings.
- Providing training and advice to school staff.
- Maintaining notes and reports.
- Working collaboratively with other health professionals.
- Keeping parents informed of pupils’ progress and contributing to parental forums.
This role would be in addition to the 5 days a week of existing occupational therapy provision already at Churchill School and the successful candidate would need to provide support and supervision to the current Band 5 level occupational therapist.
Pupils at Churchill school are at the heart of everything we do. We have high expectations for both behaviour and achievement and see that every learner has a unique personality and talents to be developed.
Visits to the school are warmly welcomed.
