There is still time for members and people who use their services to complete the occupational therapy research priorities survey before it closes on Tuesday 5 November 2019.
The survey is part of RCOT’s major agenda-setting project with the James Lind Alliance which will identify the top 10 research priorities for occupational therapy in the UK. These priorities will help to direct researchers to focus on answering questions that matter most to the people who access and practise occupational therapy.
As each person has their own experience with occupational therapy, different people will have different questions that research could seek to answer. RCOT wants to make sure these many views are captured and that people who access occupational therapy services, their carers and families share their questions.
Hearing from a wide audience will help to ensure that funders and researchers focus on the issues that matter most to the people who need to use the research outcomes in their everyday lives and make decisions based on that information. For example, recent research undertaken in response to a question asked by an occupational therapist working in Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust found that hip precautions could be safely withdrawn without detriment to patients. Not only were they able to return more quickly to engaging in the activities that are important to them, but they experienced less anxiety than those following hip precautions.
Members are therefore encouraged to ask people who use their services, and their carers, to complete the survey before it closes on Tuesday 5 November 2019.
The survey can be completed online or printed and returned to RCOT by post, and is also available in Welsh and easy read.
Complete the survey and find more information on the project webpage.
