The Challenge
Working as a neonatal OT with a caseload of complex children at high risk of neurodevelopmental problems it was essential to ensure that those at highest risk of difficulties had the opportunity for early intervention.
The Change
Neonatal OT piloted a Prechtl assessment of general movements clinic where babies movements were videoed at 3 months of age to identify those at highest risk of developing cerebral palsy.
The Impact
An MDT team has now been established. The clinic is now an integral part of enhanced neurodevelopmental follow up. Those at highest risk of cerebral palsy are now referred for therapy at a much younger age leading to improved functional outcomes.
