The Challenge
The challenge was the raise the profile of LGBTQi+ community and embed into teaching material. The second challenge was to query whether staff were ready for that classroom conversation; the third, personal one was it required me to be fully 'out'.
The Change
Teaching material reflected non binary and questioning of gender identity; students and staff talked openly and produced some great research, using e.g. Stonewall; students will be better prepared for placement; I came out and survived (!).
The Impact
Three staff are collaborating to submit an abstract on LGBT Allyship to WFOT; a safe space was created for students who may identify: more significantly, they will begin see themselves reflected in the material. Something I didn't have when I studied
