How OTs can comply with HCPC standard of proficiency on culture, equity, and diversity

Rachel Booth-Gardiner is a Lead Occupational Therapist at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, RCOT Northern and Yorkshire Regional Network Lead, and a member of RCOT’s Equity, Diversity and Belonging Expert Advisory Group. She is a Founding Member of AbleOTUK, part of the OTalk team, a Public Governor for South Tees NHS Foundation Trust, and Unison Disabled Members Officer. Rachel has blogged since 2013 on Exploring the Art of Occupation, published widely, including in HOWj with Beyond Superpowers, and received the RCOT Merit Award in 2022 for championing the lived experience voice in occupational therapy. 

Savania China is the Head of Inclusion and Involvement at RCOT, and the lead author of the forthcoming HCPC Standard Guide. He has extensive experience leading and implementing strategic initiatives, focusing on the impact of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in institutions, as well as the interpretation and application of equality legislation.  He is also the author of the book "Learn, Act, Celebrate: A Practical Framework for Achieving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Organisations." 
Before joining RCOT, he spent over a decade in senior leadership roles in Westminster, where he helped shape the development and implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion policies, approaches, and activities across the government.
