About this event

Work is a meaningful occupation for many, offering purpose, identity, structure, and social connection. Occupational therapists play a vital role in helping people overcome physical, psychological, and environmental barriers to engage in work that is safe, sustainable, and right for them.

As the UK government consults on proposed changes to the welfare system, including support for those at risk of losing financial assistance, we invite you to join this important webinar. You’ll learn more about the proposed reforms, how they may affect you and those you work with, and how we can position occupational therapy as central to government efforts to support people’s health and participation.

We’ll be joined by Dr Gail Alsop, Chief Medical Advisor at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), who will outline the current proposals for benefit reform and the Pathways to Work consultation. Gail will also share how occupational therapy is being considered in this strategy and will answer questions.

We’ll also:

  • Introduce RCOT’s new Health and Work Practice Network and how you can get involved
  • Create space for you to help shape RCOT’s official consultation response
  • Offer opportunities to connect with members working across health, work, and policy

By attending this session, you will:

  • Gain insight into current government policy proposals related to health, disability, and employment
  • Understand how occupational therapy supports people to live well - whether or not work is their goal
  • Learn how to contribute to and influence the Pathways to Work consultation
  • Build connections with others committed to advancing inclusive, person-centred occupational therapy

This webinar is open to all, and may be particularly relevant to those working in vocational rehabilitation, mental health, primary care, community health, and employment support.
