Making occupational therapy more disability inclusive: Everyone's role
About this event
Our goal is to make the occupational therapy (OT) profession more diverse and representative of the communities we serve. Currently, about 27% of new OT learners in the UK have a disability or long-term health condition.
This session, led by Georgia Vine, will focus on supporting disabled OT learners and newly registered OTs. It’s everyone’s job to help create an inclusive environment. This session is for all members, including OT learners, lecturers, practice educators, and employers.
Georgia will discuss solutions, recognising that each disabled OT is unique. We’ll talk about how to move forward, what’s working well, and everyone’s role in making changes.
We’ll also share resources like the AHP Principles of Practice-Based Learning.
By attending this session, you will:
- Understand the broader issues and challenges of ableism.
- Learn about access needs, accommodations, and different levels of adjustments.
- Consider the differences between learning environments and employment.
- Identify everyone’s roles and create your own action plan for change.
- Access resources and get help with our resource sheet, tips, suggestions, and conversation starters.
