After the announcement last week of our official name change from College to Royal College we were asked about the use of post-nominal letters. We invite our members who wish to use post -nominal lettering to denote that they are a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists to use MRCOT.
Royal College of Occupational Therapists Director of Operations Julia Skelton said: “We know the Royal news has caused huge excitement in our membership and members are now asking how they can be recognised as members of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and we want them to be able to denote this.”
Our advice is as follows:
“There is a specific order of how post-nominal which usually follows those that are conferred by the Queen, followed by academic degrees and then fellowships and membership of a society e.g.
- Julia Smith MBE BSc MRCOT (Member of the British Empire and a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists)
- Julia Smith MSc FRCOT (for a fellow of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists)
- Julia Smith BSc MRCOT (Member with a Bachelor’s degree)
“We will be looking at developing a different logo to our official RCOT company logo to denote membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and this will be announced at a later date.”
Please note that the Royal College of Occupational Therapists owns the copyright of the Royal College official logo whose use is closely monitored. Any request to use the logo should be made to David Cook david.cook@cot.co.uk or Vandita Chisholm vandita.chisholm@cot.co.uk.
