Research Webinar - March session
Open for all to attend
Research Webinar: Cultural Adaptation of OT with the Somali Community.
About the online event
What’s it about?
This webinar will present findings from a research project that used innovative, culturally inclusive methods to explore how occupational therapy services can be made more accessible and acceptable to members of the Somali community in the UK.
The research aimed to develop practical guidelines for the cultural adaptation of occupational therapy. Using an action research approach, the study sought to bring about meaningful improvement by
empowering participants and working collaboratively to identify how occupational therapy services can better meet the needs of the Somali community.
The project employed a range of participatory methods, including world cafes, storytelling, Q-sorting, and a Citizens’ Jury, enabling people who access services and stakeholders to co-develop recommendations for occupational therapy practice and service delivery.
Who is it for?
All occupational therapists are warmly invited to attend. The webinar will be particularly relevant for those working with diverse or marginalised communities, as well as practitioners, educators, and researchers with an interest in participatory and innovative research methods.

By the end of the webinar, participants will:
- Develop an understanding of the Somali community’s perspectives on accessible and acceptable of occupational therapy
- Share ideas for embedding cultural inclusivity within research and practice
- Become familiar with participatory research methods, including Citizens’ Juries and Q-sorting
Agenda
