Purpose of the Post
To work in conjunction with other team members in co-ordinating and developing the service to meet the needs of the service user group and the objectives of the organisation. The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of a high quality Occupational Therapy service and will carry out clinical and educational duties as required.
The primary purpose of this Senior Occupational Therapy post is to provide a recovery orientated, client centred occupational therapy service to women in the perinatal period who have moderate to severe mental health difficulties/illnesses.
To deliver evidence based occupational therapy Interventions in a perinatal context to women across both in hospital and community settings including contribution to planning and delivery of individual and group therapeutic interventions.
The occupational therapists’ role in perinatal mental health care and provides a mental health promotion approach for new and expectant mothers on the importance of maintaining meaningful occupational engagement during this critical life stage.
The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of a high quality Occupational Therapy service that delivers the occupational therapy process to people who avail of this service.
The Occupational therapist in perinatal maternal mental health will evaluate, analyse and treat occupational performance dysfunction in areas of self care, productivity and leisure in order to achieve maximal possible role and occupational development of mothers and their environment. Occupational therapy is a client centred health profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through occupation
The Senior Occupational Therapist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering a co-ordinated approach to the people who avail of this perinatal mental health service.
The Senior Occupational Therapist (Perinatal Mental Health Care) is a member of the hub based specialist Perinatal Mental Health team for that hospital group. A key function is close working with multidisciplinary colleagues in other hubs to ensure a seamless service is provided for women and their families.
