About the role

Step into a supported rotational role designed to get you from Band 5 to Band 6 in just 18 months. Grow your skills with structured supervision, personal development goals and hands-on experience away from NHS pressures on the beautiful Isle of Man.

Your rewarding Manx Care OT career is waiting to be discovered.

Your training. Our priority.

The Isle of Man is separate to the UK with it’s own government and national health service. With a population of approximately 85,000 our Occupational Therapists enjoy manageable caseloads that allow you more time with your patients to develop therapeutic relationships and put your new skills into practice. The pressures on Occupational Therapy on the Isle of Man are considerably less than the UK, giving you more time to learn, grow and convert learning into valuable experience.

Irete, a Band 5 Occupational Therapist, who joined Manx Care in January 2025, said;

“The Isle of Man provides a clear contrast to my past experience living and working on the mainland. The true commitment to provide high-quality treatment and the collaborative spirit was apparent from day one.”

We are proud to offer Band 5 development posts where you are truly supported to learn and develop whilst moving through the Band 5 pay scale at pace. You will gain full exposure to all areas of OT across our beautiful island as your role rotates through our various clinics clinical areas, including orthopaedics and surgery, medical, care rehabilitation, stroke, Children’s Therapy and adult community therapies. When we asked the Occupational Therapy team what they like most about working for Manx Care, the support they feel they receive came out as number one!

What you need

  • Recently or close to qualifying as an Occupational Therapist
  • HCPC Registered or registration pending
  • Experience in an acute setting from your student clinical placements
  • A full UK/IOM driving licence.

A workplace that invests in you

  • Enjoy higher salaries compared to the UK, along with annual salary increases that extend beyond typical UK NHS pay scales.
  • Be promoted to Band 6 within 2 years. The Band 5 Annex T posts are development posts where you will undergo a period of preceptorship with the aim of gaining the competencies required to fulfil a Band 6 position. During this period, you will be assessed and if you meet the competencies there will be an increase in your salary as you progress up to Band 6.
  • A generous annual leave entitlement starting at 27 days and 10 Public Holidays.
  • Subject to meeting eligibility criteria, the IOM Public Service offers two pension arrangements: the Isle of Man Government Unified Scheme 2011 or the Isle of Man Government Defined Contribution (DC) Arrangement.
  • Step away from NHS pressures and demands! The Island’s healthcare system is similar but separate to the UK NHS.
  • Our on-site education and training centre, Keyll Darree, comprises a lecture theatre, well stocked medical library, training facilities and a state-of-the-art simulation lab which is operated by trained simulation practitioners.
  • Ability to apply for an unpaid career break after 3 years’ service.
  • Access to the Learning, Education and Development training facility, which is exclusively for Public Service employees, to keep on top of your continuous professional development.
  • Free access to the Isle of Man Government Staff Welfare Service which offers professional counselling, emotional support and signposting on a wide range of issues.
  • A relocation package of up to £7,000 based on receipts is available for this role. Housing Assistance is also available where the Department will pay the difference between your current mortgage/rent bill, and that of your new accommodation on the Isle of Man, up to a maximum of £250 per month. This role also qualifies for a recruitment incentive of £3,000, payable in the 1st, 13th, and 25th months of employment. To find out more about our relocation package, click visit our website.
