Sensory approaches

A collection of resources to do with sensory approaches

Sensory approaches

Using sensory integration therapy, sensory based interventions and sensory approaches with children and young people (March 2026)

We’ve updated our evidence‑based Informed View to help occupational therapists make informed decisions about using sensory approaches and interventions with children and young people. The guidance provides clear, consistent and up‑to‑date information about what high‑quality sensory practice looks like.

This resource will be useful for service commissioners, managers, parents and caregivers, teachers, and others who want to better understand how occupational therapy can enable children and young people with sensory processing differences to participate fully in everyday life.

Towards a better understanding of sensory approach

This presentation was given as part of a Council for Disabled Children webinar exploring different approaches to sensory support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in November 2021.

The presentation examines terminology, a tiered approach to sensory interventions, training and qualifications, the evidence base and addressing sensory needs as part of an occupation-centred approach.
