Building Health into Homes: Strategic Report
Overview of our Strategic Report
The Building Health into Homes: Strategic Report demonstrates why the condition of homes in the UK is a crucial factor in the success of government ambitions to move more healthcare into communities, and to intervene earlier so that more people can live well for longer.
Currently, poor housing costs the health and care system £1.5 billion per year. When wider societal impacts are considered, this rises to £18.5 billion per year. Three-quarters of health professionals support people whose living conditions are impacting their health. This presents a significant challenge, but also a real opportunity for change.
Our report makes the case for strengthening collaboration across housing, health and social care, and shows how occupational therapy expertise can help systems deliver prevention, reduce inequalities and improve outcomes.
Your home should open up the world to you, not close it down.
