Care Act 2014 guidance

A series of guides to the Care Act 2014

Care Act 2014 updated guidance for 2026

This series of guides to the Care Act 2014 has been updated in 2026 (version one of the guide was published in 2016).

We developed these guides to help occupational therapists apply the Care Act 2014 (the Care Act) confidently in practice and provide commissioners and other senior decision makers with a valuable insight into how the occupational therapy profession will help to meet the obligations of the Act.

This guidance applies to England. Different legislation and processes apply in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

We’re grateful for the expertise, insight and guidance of all the OT professionals who contributed to the creation of these revised editions.
