Comment on UK government announcement of support for people with ME and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

‘ME and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome plans must include occupational therapists at their heart’

Commenting on the UK government’s announcement for more support, closer to home, for people with ME and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, UK Policy and Public Affairs Manager at the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, Joseph Brunwin, said:

‘The investment in research and moving care into the community is a welcome step, but it must include occupational therapists at the heart of planning and delivery. Occupational therapists are experts in fatigue management and support people to pace, plan and prioritise their daily activities – or occupations - whether that’s getting dressed, preparing a meal or working.

‘For example, in the workplace, occupational therapists help people and employers make adjustments so individuals can stay in, or return to, meaningful employment while managing their fatigue.

‘We look forward to working with the government to ensure everyone with ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is able to manage their symptoms and continue to do the occupations they want and need to do.’
