We’ve published the draft Professional Standards of practice, conduct and ethics for occupational therapy – and we want to hear what you think.

Our Standards set out what safe, effective and ethical practice looks like for the UK occupational therapy workforce – wherever they work, whatever the scope and at every career level.

They underpin professional judgement, reflect our commitment to equity, diversity and belonging and help every registered OT meet the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration requirements.

You can now read our draft Standards and give us your feedback before 11.59pm, Sunday 7 December 2025.

We need your feedback

Your feedback is very important us and it is vital that we capture your insight and experience to help shape the final version being published in 2026.

Giving feedback should take approximately 20 minutes. The deadline is 11.59pm, Sunday 7 December 2025.

Whether you’re an occupational therapist, occupational therapy support worker, learner (student and apprentice), educator, employer or stakeholder, we want to know how these standards work in practice and how we can make them as clear and practical as possible.

What’s changing?

We've restructured the entire document layout. The new format aligns directly with HCPC Standards of conduct, performance and ethics.

We’ve strengthened the emphasis on equity, diversity and belonging.

We’ve also provided additional guidance on digital professionalism, environmental sustainability, responsible use of AI and interprofessional working. It strengthens expectations around communication, person-centred care and professional reflection – helping you to practise with confidence and integrity in a changing health and care landscape.

If you’d like to discuss these draft standards any further, get in touch by emailing hello@rcot.co.uk.
