The HCPC audit and RCOT Communities – my experience

By: Becki Billing – Practice Lead for Practice Quality Assurance 05 March, 2026 Blog 5 minute read

Becki Billing is the Practice Lead for Practice Quality Assurance at Devon County Council Adult Social Care. Last year she was selected for the HCPC’s CPD audit.

We’re delighted that Becki not only passed the audit but found a new way to access opportunities and make connections through RCOT Communities.

Our thanks to Becki for sharing her reflection

Receiving the notification initially left me feeling very worried – about whether I had enough evidence, how long the preparation would take and what the whole process would involve.

Posting in our ‘Occupational Therapists’ Teams space at work, I found I was the only person in my organisation who had been asked to submit a portfolio, which added to the pressure and meant I had no one to buddy up with! I was also conscious that my role isn’t a traditional occupational therapy role and wondered whether that would affect my chances of success.

I logged into RCOT communities and quickly found the ‘HCPC audit peer support group’ which I joined immediately!

Reading others’ posts reassured me that I was not alone, and the drop-ins were incredibly helpful – especially Emma’s summaries, which included useful links to HCPC and other resources. It was also encouraging to see there were many people like me in non-traditional roles.

Since completing the audit, I have continued to drop into RCOT communities regularly. I find it really helpful for spotting CPD and developmental opportunities.

In November, I spotted an opportunity to apply for the Elizabeth Casson Leadership course and was thrilled to gain a place. I have also recently booked onto an AI and Occupational Therapy event, which looks really interesting.

I wish more occupational therapists used RCOT Communities, as it will enrich the content.

For me, it helps maintain my connection to the profession and keeps me linked up to what’s happening across the world of occupational therapy.

Our huge thanks to Becki for her reflections.

The image at the top shows Becki engaging in an occupation she loves – quilting. She attends a lesson once a month, learning to machine and hand quilt. The cardigan she's wearing is crocheted by her.
