Outcomes of our Annual General Meeting

By: RCOT 18 June, 2025 News 3 minute read

The 2025 Annual General Meeting of BAOT took place yesterday at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

During the meeting, members received a report of the year’s impact and finances and we also announced the results of the BAOT Council elections. Members voted for the two resolutions put forward to the membership and the outcomes of both votes were announced.

Council election results

Congratulations to returning Council members Odeth Richardson as Chair and Paul Dunning as Council member, Wales who were appointed in their positions following uncontested elections.

Next year, three Council positions are open for election; Council Member, Wales, Council Member, Research & Development and Council Member, Industrial Relations. Our People and Nominations Committee will work with Council to deliver a competitive election.

Voting results

In the run up the AGM, members were asked to vote for two resolutions:

  • on changes to member fees and
  • changes to BAOT Articles of Association.

Thank you to all members who voted and had their say on these important governance decisions.

Members voted in favour of changes to the BAOT Articles of Association. Our governance will be stronger as we will be more compliant, aligned with best practice and have the continuity and stability of our occupational therapist led leadership with new terms of office for Council members.

Whilst members who attended the AGM in person overwhelmingly supported the proposal, the resolution on members fees did not pass. Council will take time to reflect on the impact of this on our financial sustainability and the support and services we can provide to members. We may need to revisit this subject with members in the future, as part of ongoing discussions about our priorities and resources.

Odeth Richardson, Chair of Council said:
‘I’m excited to continue to lead our profession and together with Paul and our other Council members - ensure our organisation has the governance and financial stability to support our members and champion the profession. We’re grateful to all members who took time to have their say and vote on our resolutions, and our improved BAOT Articles will help safeguard our future. Whilst we’re disappointed our resolution on changes to member fees did not pass, we understand the financial pressures facing members. We’ll need to reflect on what this means for our finances, but our priority remains to ensure RCOT is in the strongest position to serve and advocate for our profession.’
