About the online event

Work is not a niche clinical specialty or an "add-on" to our OT focus. It is an essential, everyday occupation that, for many, fundamentally underpins health, identity, and personal wellbeing, while proactively reducing socio-economic health inequalities. It’s deeply linked to occupational justice.

Perhaps one of the most important interventions we can make in our OT Practice is to safeguard and support an individual to return to or remain in work.

This final webinar of three in the series of Work and Health seminars explores the fundamentals of job retention support. Delivered by Dave Costello, an Occupational Therapist with a long career in many different aspects of employment support and specifically a national trainer in job retention, this session is aimed at empowering OT’s new to job retention in feeling more confident in bringing the return to work conversation into their existing OT Assessment. It will also provide a springboard for OT’s considering moving into Fit for Work services, an emerging role that is ideally suited to the profession’s core skills.

Who is it for?

  • All occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and pre-registration students.

  • If you work in ANY area of practice, even if you find yourself thinking, "Work isn't my area," this session is explicitly for you.

Why you must attend:

  • Own your professional space: The UK healthcare landscape is rapidly shifting toward occupational health, prevention, and community rehabilitation. OTs are uniquely qualified to bridge the gap between healthcare and employment and we are confidently inhabiting this space.
  • Translate your existing skills: You already analyse environments, assess activity, and negotiate adaptations. We will show you how to effortlessly pivot those exact skills toward work outcomes without adding to your workload.
  • Champion occupational justice: Enabling an individual to stay in, return to, or seek meaningful work is one of the most powerful interventions we have to prevent poverty and promote long-term health equity.
