A bit about us

The purpose of Health and Social Care in Guernsey and Alderney is to protect, promote and improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and the community.

In order to do this, we operate a wide range of services across many different teams, but our approach is always an integrated one. We work collaboratively, to provide the essential services needed by thousands of individuals. The varied nature of our work means that there is plenty of choice and opportunity for those kickstarting their career, those with advanced experience and those who are looking to support our services in many other ways.

Collaborative working is at the heart of what we do, as we are always engaging with fellow Health & Social Care professionals, colleagues, agencies, the third sector and the community. Our working environments allow for the time needed to get to know your colleagues and service users, so you can develop healthy, productive relationships.

About the Islands of Guernsey

Guernsey, and its sister island of Alderney, are located in the English Channel, 50km off the north-west coast of France and 120km from the southern English coast. Herm Island, Sark Island and Lihou are also part of 'The Islands of Guernsey' so we have a total of five beautiful islands for you to call home.

Guernsey is self-governing and self-funding, and is known for 'punching above its weight' in terms of the quality of life it offers. The islands are welcoming, safe and peaceful. With a population of around 63,000, you will quickly get to know our supportive community, and you'll be pleasantly surprised by how easy it can be to travel between sweeping bays, clifftop viewpoints and our historical harbour town, in a short space of time. You will be able to enjoy cliff walking, sea swimming, island hopping, al fresco dining, sports clubs, a full calendar of local events, and some of the best sunsets around.

You can discover more about each island here or head over to locateguernsey.com which has detailed information about making the move to island life. And with an average 20-minute commute, islanders are never far from the beach!

Getting here

There are regular flights and ferries between the UK and Guernsey. Gatwick is one of the many airports you can fly from, along with Heathrow, London City, and numerous regional airports too. Flights can take as little as 40 minutes from Gatwick.

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Adult Physical Health team. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of settings including acute hospital wards, rehabilitation services, community teams and patients' homes, supporting adults with a wide range of physical health needs.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality, person-centred assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and discharge planning, enabling individuals to maximise their independence and quality of life. You will manage your own caseload, use evidence-based practice and work collaboratively with patients, families and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

The post also offers opportunities to contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and the supervision and development of Occupational Therapy students, assistants and junior staff.

The role comes with a competitive salary, progressive annual leave and entitlement to a pension scheme. We will also consider previous service in a substantive post in the NHS or Local Authority towards entitlement to annual leave, maternity leave and sick pay.
