Weighted blankets guide for occupational therapists
RCOT launches official weighted blankets guide for occupational therapists
Following an increase in the public popularity of weighted blankets and concerns about their safe use, it was clear that guidance on how to use this form of sensory intervention safely and effectively needed to be updated.
While the Weighted blankets for children and adults – A guide for occupational therapists is primarily intended to be used by occupational therapists, members of the public who are considering using a weighted blanket might also find it helpful.
We collaborated with RCOT members and the RCOT Publication Group to develop this guide. It covers:
- context around the use and reasoning behind weighted blankets
- risk-assessment requirements
- consent around the use of weighted blankets
- interventions for the use of weighted blankets
- goal setting and how to measure outcomes
- follow-up and monitoring of weighted blankets
- ensuring fair access to weighted blankets.
