Are you working in neonatal care or about to start a new role in this specialist area of practice? We’re hosting three complimentary webinars in January and February 2023 to inform, inspire and develop the knowledge and skills of neonatal OTs at an enhanced level of practice.
Each of our webinars will have a unique focus and will be led by an OT expert.
Infant occupations, parental occupations and co-occupations in neonatal care
Thursday 26 January 2023, 9–10am
Laura Kromhout, Clinical Lead Neonatal OT from Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, will provide an overview of infant occupations, parental occupations and co-occupations in the neonatal context during this webinar.
We expect participants to have completed the foundation eLearning program for OTs working in neonatal care before attending.
What will you learn?
To consolidate participants’ understanding of ‘occupation’ in a neonatal context.
The impact of pain/stress on infant development and occupational performance in neonatal care
Monday 30 January 2023, 3–4pm
In this webinar we’ll review the evidence around stress and pain in the context of neonatal care and their impact on occupational performance and infant development. We’ll also revise the evidence around neonatal stress and pain and consider the role of the neonatal OT in addressing these factors.
What will you learn?
- To revise short and long-term consequences of stress and pain on infants in the neonatal unit.
- Understand how stress and pain can affect a baby’s occupational performance and parent’s co-occupations.
- Introduce the role of the neonatal OT in stress and pain assessment and management on the neonatal unit.
Neonatal frameworks and their application to occupational therapy practice
Monday 6 February 2023, 4–5pm
In this webinar we’ll introduce frameworks currently used within neonatal care and their relevance to occupational therapy practice including, but not limited to:
- the BAPM framework for Family Integrated Care (FiCare)
- developmental care
- Infant and Family-Centred developmental care (IFCDC)
- Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI)
- the European Standards for Care of the Newborn and Newborn Individualised Developmental Care and Assessment Programme (NIDCAP).
The webinar will introduce the language used within these frameworks and consider how they’re relevant to occupational therapy practice.
We’ll provide examples illustrating how neonatal OTs have developed their service to contribute to these programmes.
What will you learn?
- To develop awareness and understanding of the current neonatal frameworks.
- To understand the relevance of these frameworks to occupational therapy practice in neonatal care.
- To understand how neonatal OTs can be involved in these frameworks within their role.
We're inviting both members and non-members to this event, so please share the details with your OT/AHP colleagues. We’ll also record the sessions and make them available on our website after the event.
This event is part of RCOT and Health Education England (HEE) collaboration to create an Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Workforce Reform to shape the future of the AHP personnel. The learning will be for all four nations.
Keep an eye out for upcoming announcements about two in-person workshops for neonatal OTs working at an enhanced level.
We look forward to seeing you there.
