Occupational therapists provide life-changing support to people of all ages at different stages of their life.

Life-changing support and expertise

Occupational therapists provide life-changing support to people of all ages at different stages of their life. RCOT campaigns to demonstrate why this support is vital to the health and wellbeing of today’s citizens and future generations.

Health and Social Care providers face difficult decisions on how to provide cost-effective care that meets the needs of local communities. It is therefore critical that occupational therapists clearly show how they are improving lives and saving money for the public purse.

Drawing on best practice service examples the following reports offer recommendations for deploying occupational therapy expertise in different areas of practice.

Roots of recovery: Occupational therapy at the heart of health equity

Everyone should get the occupational therapy they need. Our health and social care systems are for everyone. These are simple, uncontroversial aims but we all know that health inequality has got worse since the first Marmot report in 2009, and has deteriorated still further during the pandemic.

Health equity is all our business, and is one of RCOT’s priorities for 2022.

This report sets out practical ways in which decision-makers and system designers can use the skills offered by occupational therapy to make better use of existing resources.
