Career Progression in social care
In collaboration with key partners including HEE, Skills for Care (SFC), ADASS and strategic lead occupational therapists (OTs) across England, we looked at the barriers and opportunities to career progression in social care, from student through to advancing levels of practice. The aim was to promote positive approaches to career progression.
We worked in partnership with SFC to demonstrate and enhance the roles of OTs across all levels of practice in social care. We had the pleasure of hosting a joint national webinar which looked at Occupational therapy career development in social care, where keynote speakers Steve Ford, Chief Executive of RCOT, Oonagh Smyth, Chief Executive of Skills for Care and Dee Christie, Chair of Elizabeth Casson Trust speaking spoke on the subject.
The webinar was geared towards OTs working at different levels of practice in adult social care; newly qualified, experienced, advanced, operational management and strategic and workforce leads who wanted to learn more about utilising the OT workforce giving a rich insight to people's experiences and ideas.
You’ll be able to watch the webinar recording by sending an email to events@skillsforcare.org.uk.
We realise that these are difficult times in health and social care, you have told us about some of the workforce issues you face. With your help, we aim to focus on solutions that you think would enable OTs to break through career barriers. Our ultimate purpose is to come up with a career development plan for the future.
