On Thursday 20 October 2022 we’re welcoming Dr Kee Hean LIM, Senior Lecturer Occupational Therapy, Brunel University, London, to speak to us and the occupational therapy community.
This EBD insight session will explore whether we are really listening, giving time and attention to those we meet? In the rush of our daily lives and business with work, have we lost the essence of being present, to come alongside and listen.
Maybe some of the stories and narratives are too complex, raw and confronting. It requires making a time and space to reflect, examine our values and beliefs, to engage in discourse, to reflect on power in relationships, challenge dominant narratives and societal attitudes.
The time is now as occupational therapists and individuals to stand up and be counted, to speak out, to advocate, to confront injustice, discrimination and inequalities, to journey together as allies and take action!
Dr Kee Hean LIM has clinical, management, research and teaching experience. And amongst his research he has authored books, chapters, articles within the areas of cultural competence, mental health practice, transcultural practice, disability sports, the Kawa ‘River’ model, inequalities, discrimination and exclusion and mental health recovery.
There will be a short time for questions. This event is part of our EDB Insights series, where we’ve invited people to talk about the topics of equity, diversity and belonging, so we can all reflect and use the lessons learned in our practices.
We’re looking forward to hearing from Dr Kee Hean LIM and would love for you to join us.
