The Challenge
Using an activity checklist to identify interests and potential meaningful activities of people with dementia in an acute hospital ward. The checklist was lengthy, and didn't offer any additional information other than the writing on the list.
The Change
Using the activity checklist as a guide, I printed A5 images of each of the activities, added the name of the activity in a contrasting colour and laminated them together to make a booklet that could be easily flipped through to identify activities.
The Impact
Having the checklist in a picture format made the information more accessible, and patients were able to use the booklet on their own, quickly recognising what they liked, rather than listening to a list of activities that might not be meaningful.
