We want you to be part of shaping and driving the future of the occupational therapy profession. We're excited to announce a new approach offering a wider range of opportunities for members to get involved in a way that works best for you.
Why change?
We recognise the limitations of the current Board structure, with limited representation and a demanding workload placed on a select few. We’re grateful for and thank all our current and past Board members for their valuable contributions. We’ve discussed this new approach with the current Board members and all five Boards – England, Scotland, Wales, Learning and Development, Research and Development – will be stepped down by the end of July 2024.
Our goal is to be more inclusive and agile, allowing all members to take part in meaningful ways.
Robert Workman, Chair for the RCOT Board in Wales, says:
‘It’s been a privilege to be on the Wales Board for the last two years. I see this as an opportunity to widen access to occupational therapy community and all levels to have influence and be part of decision making. I know that some people are intimidated at the thought of being part a national Board, but I’ve already had interest from clinicians keen to be involved in the advisory groups where they can share their skills and knowledge. This will be a fantastic development opportunity for so many. I fully support these changes and look forward to supporting my staff to be involved.’
Who will the new opportunities be for?
Everyone. The new approach will allow for more representation by support workers, learners and apprentices, OTs at different career levels and from diverse and under-represented groups and people with lived experience.
- Advisory groups: tackle specific strategic projects like our Workforce Strategy
- RCOT representatives: become an RCOT voice in national working groups, media, or by giving evidence to government committees
- flexible engagement: participate in various forums like the Leadership Forum, professional networks, or workshops
- hosting visits: showcase your local services or education programs to RCOT staff, policymakers, or national influencers.
- variety of options: find ways to contribute that fit your schedule, experience, and interests
- open to all: from support workers and learners to directors, everyone is welcome, we’re especially looking for members from under-represented groups and those with diverse experiences
- increased agility: we can adapt to respond to emerging issues and member needs.
